New HBO Max TV Shows and Movies in May 2026

There isn't much in the way of new TV on HBO Max this May, but considering that Euphoria, Hacks, and Half Man will all be airing new episodes throughout the month, you'll still have plenty to watch. You could also use the next few weeks to rewatch the first two seasons of House of the Dragon before Season 3 premieres in June. That's not to say there's nothing new, with the highest profile TV premiere being the second season of Jason Momoa's travel docuseries On the Roam.

But HBO Max's most exciting premieres this month are all movies, from Emerald Fennell's period romance Wuthering Heights to Charli XCX's not-quite-documentary The Moment to Alex Russell's psychological thriller Lurker.

The best new HBO Max movies in May

HBO Max streams all HBO shows and movies when they debut on HBO. But not all shows and movies on HBO Max make it to HBO. We'll designate HBO Max exclusives where appropriate.

Wuthering Heights (May 1, HBO Max)

Director Emerald Fennell is great at drumming up controversy, and her loose adaptation (the film's title is even styled in quotes on the poster — you can't say she didn't warn you) of Emily Brontë's famous novel about 18th century class politics getting in the way of a romance certainly did that. Now, you can see Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff and decide for yourself. [Trailer]

The Moment (May 29, HBO Max)

Charli XCX would like us all to know that she's a major cinephile. The Moment is not quite a documentary, nor is it a mockumentary, but rather a secret third thing, with Charli playing a version of herself grappling with the mass amounts of industry pressure that came after the release of her hit album Brat. Rosanna Arquette, Alexander Skarsgärd, Jamie Demetriou, and Hailey Benton Gates co-star. [Trailer]
