The Tom Hardy series will be back for more — but Hardy's role in a potential Season 3 is unknown

Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan, MobLand
Luke Varley/Paramount+MobLand came out of nowhere when it premiered on Paramount+ in early 2025, just four months after it began production. Despite the rushed schedule, the drama series immediately became one of the streamer's biggest hits ever, thanks in no small part to its star-studded cast that included Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Paddy Considine. And while the show will go on, the behind-the-scenes drama on this series is becoming just as compelling as the on-screen storytelling.
MobLand tells the story of a war between two London crime families — the Harrigans and the Stevensons — from the point of view of the Harrigans and their fixer, Harry Da Souza (Hardy). But this series is as much a personal melodrama as it is a crime story — the Harrigans have a level of family drama that you'd normally have to watch Game of Thrones for. That's no doubt one of the reasons MobLand has proven so popular.
Now that Season 1 is over, though, it's time to look ahead at what's next for MobLand.

Production on Season 2 wrapped in late May 2026, and that news came with a troubling additional tidbit, via Variety: Tom Hardy was rumored to be fired from the series after the second season, reportedly over some sort of falling out with co-creator Jez Butterworth and producer David Glasser. Variety now says the reports he was fired were premature, but that the conflict is real — and the parties involved are allegedly working on trying to make it so Hardy can return for a potential third season. Fortunately, none of this should affect Season 2 much, since they've already finished filming it.
While MobLand is an ensemble cast with several other big names, Hardy is playing the main character and is the center of the marketing, so it tracks that the powers that be would try to get everyone to get along. His sudden absence could require significant pivots to the direction of the story, depending on what happens with Hardy's character in Season 2, and MobLand might lose popularity without him. This story isn't done yet.
Normally we'd expect Season 2 on a series like this to take at least a year, but MobLand was unusually efficient. After being announced initially as a spin-off to Ray Donovan in early 2024, the series was completely overhauled, filmed, and released over the span of just 13 months. It may be that the show's fast schedule contributed to whatever this beef is with Tom Hardy behind the scenes, but since Season 2 has already filmed, that shouldn't affect the schedule in the near term unless they had to cancel planned reshoots.
With all that being the case, you should expect MobLand Season 2 to hit Paramount+ sometime during 2026.

Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Anson Boon, MobLand
Luke Varley/Paramount+You should expect that all the major living characters will stick around for Season 2. Even Tom Hardy's Harry, whose wife stabbed him in the chest in a moment of anxiety at the end of the season finale. (It could be that only behind-the-scenes drama can kill Harry.)

Pierce Brosnan, MobLand
Luke Varley/Paramount+Season 1 of MobLand ended with the ultimate conclusion of the Harrigans' war against the Stevensons, with the Stevenson family pretty much wiped out — Kevin put a bullet right in Richie's eyeball. But all is not well on the Harrigan side of things, as both Conrad and Maeve — the family's patriarch and matriarch — were both taking by the authorities and thrown into prison. On the outside, things aren't much better. It is revealed that Eddie isn't Kevin's son, but is secretly Conrad's son with Kevin's wife Bella.
Maeve wants young Eddie to be the new face of the Harrigan family, but Kevin — extremely bitter at his father — has plans to take control himself. Meanwhile, the mysterious Kat McAllister attempted to leverage Harry against the Harrigans by ordering him to wipe out the key players, including Kevin. Harry said no — he's loyal to the Harrigans to the end — which will likely have major consequences in Season 2, as Kat warned him.
Not that Harry got out of Season 1 unscathed. In his finale scene of the season, Harry's wife Jan sorta-accidentally-in-a-fit-of-rage stabbed him in a moment of frustration — between the war Harry had just been involved with and the revelation that her best friend had secretly been a police informant, Jan's anxiety made a lot of sense. Fortunately, it didn't seem as though the stabbing will be fatal for tough-as-nails Harry.
One war is over, and it seems very likely that another one is about to begin. While the renewal announcement didn't mention any details about Season 2's story at all, it seems obvious that Kat McAllister represents the next group the Harrigans will have to contend with. They announced their presence in the finale when Kat tried to make Harry kill his friends, but we don't exactly know who they are or what their deal is. But it's looking like the Harrigans are about to step into a larger and more dangerous world now that they've vanquished the Stevensons.
Season 1 of MobLand is available to watch in full on Paramount+.
