Our long national nightmare is finally over — or, depending on who you ask, perhaps it's only just begun: Euphoria will soon be back from its very extended hiatus. Somehow, this is only the third season of a show that started airing in 2019, but at least those crazy kids have finally made it out of high school. In bittersweet news, Hacks also returns this month (yay!) for its final season (boo!). And the limited series Half Man, Richard Gadd's follow-up to his Netflix phenomenon Baby Reindeer, will premiere toward the end of the month.

On the movies end, the Oscar-nominated Marty Supreme hits HBO Max this April, as do the Sydney Sweeney-starring boxer biopic Christy and last year's Alien: Romulus.

Below, we pulled together our picks for the month, plus a list of everything coming to HBO Max in April.

HBO Max

HBO Max streams all HBO shows and movies when they debut on HBO. But not all shows and movies on HBO Max make it to HBO. We'll designate HBO Max exclusives where appropriate.

Hacks Season 5 (April 9, HBO Max)

Parting with Deborah Vance is such sweet sorrow. No, she's not actually dead, but Season 5 will be the final season of Hacks. The Emmy-winning comedy picks up in the aftermath of mistaken and, perhaps more importantly, unflattering reports of Deborah's (Jean Smart) apparent death, as she and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) head back to where they came from (Vegas, baby!) to solidify Deborah's comedic legacy. -Allison Picurro [Trailer]

Euphoria Season 3 (April 12, HBO)

Did anyone think this day would ever come? Euphoria's second season aired all the way back in early 2022, and its journey back to our screens has been, in a word, dramatic. But the HBO drama returns this spring, complete with a lot of new cast members (including — deep breath — RosalíaMarshawn LynchSharon StoneTrisha PaytasDanielle Deadwyler, and Natasha Lyonne, among others) as it jumps five years into the future. The first trailer shows Rue (Zendaya) being chased down by her old drug boss; Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) unhappily engaged; and Jules (Hunter Schafer) incredibly rich, somehow? The Euphoria high school is no more, but the Euphoria teens (turned adults) are still getting into trouble. -Allison Picurro [Trailer] [Everything to know about Euphoria Season 3]

Half Man (April 23, HBO)

Richard Gadd was slingshotted into stardom when his Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer became an overnight sensation in 2024, and we're about to find out whether it was just a fluke or we've found a new streaming auteur. There isn't much known about his new series Half Man, which stars Gadd and Jamie Bell as estranged "brothers" (not related by blood) whose reunion ignites an inferno of violence and kicks off a look back at their relationship. But from the promo image, it looks like Gadd beefed up significantly from baby reindeer to mature bull for the role. -Tim Surette
