The Deuce Will Return for a Third and Final Season

If you're a big fan of David Simon's The Deuce, we have some good news and some bad news. The good news: HBO has renewed the series for a third season. The bad news: that third season will be its last, Deadline reports.

James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal star in the series about the legalization and rise of the porn industry in New York City beginning in the early 1970s and through the mid-1980s. Ahead of its second season premiere, Franco was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior by five women, but HBO and co-creator Simon stood by the star because there have no complaints about Franco's behavior while filming The Deuce. "In our experience, he was entirely professional as an actor, director and producer," Simon said in January.

Simon shared a photo from the set of the series with a message expressing his gratitude for being able to end the show the way he always imagined. "We're always conjuring the last scene before we write the first. So much the better when we work for people who allow us to consistently plan, arc and execute as intended. Thanks, @HBO, for the third and final season renewal and the chance for #thedeuce to tell its full story," he wrote.

The Deuce airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
