The Boys Season 4: Release Date, Cast, Latest News, and Everything Else to Know

Not a V'd up chicken!

Just when you think The Boys can't get any more deranged, it does. The official trailer for Season 4 has dropped, and boy oh boy are we in for a nasty ride.

After the wild battle in The Boys' Season 3 finale, the Supes are in trouble. Vought's beloved Seven have never looked weaker, and in fact, only three of them remain in service: the Deep (Chace Crawford), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and, of course, the evil that is Homelander (Antony Starr).

See above for our guide to spring TV.

The Boys have also been better. Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is staring death in the face after taking one too many Temp V doses. He wants to continue his charge against the Supes, which is now made more complicated by the fact that his wife and Homelander's son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) have crossed over to the dark side. And how will Hughie (Jack Quaid) and the Boys respond to everything?

Developed by Eric Kripke and based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows a group of mostly ordinary humans as they attempt to expose the corruption and crimes of megacorporation Vought International — and the superheroes it employs. It's been nearly two years since the last season dropped. But, to the delight of everyone with a sick and twisted mind, the show is returning this summer.

Here's everything we know so far about The Boys Season 4.

The Boys Season 4 latest news

On May 3, Prime Video dropped the official trailer for The Boys Season 4 at CCXP México. It teases extremely disturbing scenes, to say the least. See below for more information on the video.

The Boys Season 4 trailers

The Boys Season 4 official trailer premiered on May 3, with fans at CCXP México getting the first look. The clip starts with Butcher's words: "I look back at my life, and all I see are messes I made," he says. "I can do one thing right, with the time I got left. But I can't do it alone." The camera then pans to the members of The Boys. What follows is an onslaught of bloody scenes with humans fighting humans, humans fighting supes, and supes fighting supes. Oh, and a "V-ed up chicken" that's seemingly immune to bullets.

The teaser trailer for The Boys Season 4 was released on Dec. 2, 2023. Election Day is coming, and Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is scheming her way to the top of the U.S. government. The clip also shows a violent showdown between followers of Homelander and Starlight. And is that Homelander covered in blood in the last scene — and smirking? Can't say we're surprised.

When is The Boys Season 4 coming out?

The Boys Season 4 launches on Thursday, June 13. Prime Video announced that the first three episodes will be released on that date, followed by a new episode each week. The season finale premieres July 18.

The Boys Season 4 first look

On Nov. 8, 2023, Prime Video dropped first look art of The Boys Season 4. The images feature Homelander and Butcher — each of whom made appearances in the finale of Gen V — in election-themed posters. The Season 3 finale set up the major role that Election Day might play in the upcoming chapter. Presidential candidate Robert Singer (Jim Beaver) selected Neuman as his running mate after she secretly orchestrated the former pick's death, and we can only imagine that Butcher and the Boys are planning to take down Neuman at all costs.

How does The Boys Season 4 connect to Gen V?

One of the most important cameos in Gen V took place in a mid-credits scene. In the finale, we saw Butcher appear in the Woods — the secret lab underneath Godolkin University where Dean Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn) and Dr. Cardosa (Marcos Pigossi) were experimenting on Supes with the goal of creating a virus that would harm them. They succeeded, but shortly after, Neuman tricked Cardosa into giving her the contagion before, of course, popping the doctor's head off. It's clear from Butcher's appearance that he knows about the virus, and this was confirmed in The Boys' Season 4 trailer.

"I have found the answer to all our prayers," Butcher says. "A virus that kills Supes." Besides, the Season 4 trailer also featured a shot with two of Gen V's stars: Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann), who were last seen leading a massacre against non-Supes in the spin-off series.

We had asked Gen V co-showrunner Michele Fazekas whether fans have to watch the college-set spin-off before seeing The Boys Season 4. "You don't. There's definitely a payoff for you if you do, and there's threads that connect the shows in a really nice, elegant way," Fazekas told TV Guide. "But both Eric [Kripke] and I are really adamant that either show can be enjoyed independent of the other."

The Boys Season 4 production timeline

Production on the fourth season began in the fall of 2022. Kripke made a post on Aug. 22, 2022, with the caption "Day One."

Members of the cast also posted about the new season on social media. "Today we start work on season 4," wrote Jack Quaid, who stars as Hughie. "This photo is from the first day The Boys were all on set as a team during season 1."

On Feb. 12, 2023, Kripke tweeted about the finale of the upcoming season. "Alright, Toronto. Let's do this," he wrote, and added the hashtag "#Season4Finale." The showrunner later posted that Season 4's finale will not be the show's last episode — whew! "I'm here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale," Kripke posted. "No, not the series finale, there will be more!" No official renewal for The Boys Season 5 has been announced yet.

On April 12, 2023, Kripke took to Twitter to share that filming has wrapped on Season 4. He posted selfies with Quaid and Karen Fukuhara, both of whom, to the surprise of no one, are covered in blood.

Quaid also posted a selfie. "That's a picture wrap on season 4!!!!" Quaid wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to our incredible cast and our insanely talented, hard-working crew. This one's our best yet."

On Nov. 9, 2023, Kripke posted about the status of The Boys Season 4. "Editing: done. VFX: halfway done. Music & sound: quarter done. Now that the SAG strike is over (yay), the actors can record additional dialogue," he wrote

On April 9, showrunner Kripke shared an update on the series. "As of today, #TheBoys #Season4 is completely, totally, absolutely DONE," he wrote on X. "I'm really grateful & so proud of this cast & crew. Could be our best yet. Can't wait to unleash it onto the world." Bless!

The Boys Season 4 cast

There are a bunch of new cast members joining in Season 4, including Susan Heyward, who is starring as Sister Sage, and Valorie Curry, who is starring as Firecracker. Both of these characters are superheroes. "These new Supes are some of the best & craziest ever written for #TheBoys," Kripke wrote of the news. "You are going to love them. And by love, I mean be absolutely horrified & a tiny bit nauseous." Amazon also shared that Crovetti, who plays Ryan, has been upped to series regular.

On Oct. 10, 2022, The Boys dropped first look photos of Heyward's Sage and Curry's Firecracker. "Wait till you see @susanheyward & @valoriecurry in action," Kripke wrote in a repost. "Horrific & hilarious & very, very dangerous."

On Aug. 25, 2022, Deadline reported that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join the cast of The Boys as a recurring guest star. Amazon did not share the character Morgan will play. The actor previously worked with Kripke on The CW's Supernatural, where Morgan starred as John Winchester. "Can't tell you how excited I am! Big thanks to @therealKripke and @AMCPlus & @TheBoysTV for finding a way with both schedules," Morgan wrote on Twitter after the announcement, referencing his AMC series The Walking Dead: Dead City. "No easy task. SO DAMN STOKED!!"

On Dec. 1, 2022, The Boys revealed new members joining the Season 4 cast. They include Rosemarie DeWitt, who will star as Hughie's mom, as well as Rob Benedict and Elliot Knight. No information was shared about who Benedict and Knight will play. Amazon also said that Simon Pegg will return as Hughie's dad in the upcoming season.

As for the rest of the cast, we are expecting Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin MoriartyTomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Laz AlonsoClaudia Doumit, and Colby Minifie to return.

We don't know if Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy will be back for The Boys Season 4. But in June 2023, Ackles at least confirmed that Soldier Boy isn't dead, according to Screen Rant. "I'm not allowed to give anything out, but we'll just say that Soldier Boy is not dead. Thank God."
