Norm Macdonald Gets New Comedy Central Show

Norm Macdonald is returning to the anchor desk. Comedy Central announced Wednesday that it's picking up Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, ordering eight episodes.

The comedy channel promises the show will feature his "unique and comedic take on the most topical and controversial stories from the sports world."

"Norm has the uncanny ability to say what I didn't even realize I was thinking," said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central's head of original programming.

In the '90s, Macdonald was a Saturday Night Live cast member for five years, serving as the "Weekend Update" anchorman. He also did impressions of Larry King, Burt Reynolds, David Letterman and Bob Dole, among others. Macdonald, 47, starred on ABC's Norm(1999-2001) and his film credits include Dirty WorkandScrewed.

Macdonald's new program is scheduled to premiere in April and will be taped in front of a live studio audience.

Before it debuts, Comedy Central also will run his one-hour standup special on Saturday, March 12 at 11/10c.
