Starz and Lionsgate are bringing the popular John Wick film franchise to television in a new series called The Continental. The news was announced Friday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour by Starz President and CEO Chris Albrect.

"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV," said Albrecht. "The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world."

The project was first announced in June 2017 when John Wick director Chad Stahelski confirmed to The Independentthat Lionsgate was developing a spin-off of the popular film franchise starring Keanu Reeves. Written by Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire), who will also serve as showrunner, the series is set in a hyper-real version of Los Angeles and will focus on the inner workings of the exclusive Continental Hotel, a refuge for assassins.

Reeves and John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad will also serve as executive producers. Stahelski is set to direct the premiere.
