Don't make the mistake of saying Bebe Neuwirth's incoming Inspector General will be "over" Tom Selleck's NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods.
Don't make the mistake of saying Bebe Neuwirth's incoming Inspector General will be "over" Tom Selleck's NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. "She's not over me," Selleck bristled humorously of his new recurring costar at a SAG Foundation Q&A in New York City Tuesday night. "But it is a bit of a problem. She can invoke certain things that make his job difficult. To Frank, who's not a very patient man, it's a nuisance."
Might those sparks of conflict lead to romance? "It is essentially romantic comedy we're doing," Selleck confirmed. "But it's serious. They fight a lot, but we're finding out they enjoy the company in argumentation."
Neuwirth has shot two episodes of the show, and Selleck said he thinks she'll return for more. Where that will lead for longtime widower Frank is anyone's guess. "I don't have a 'p' [for producer] next to my name in the credits, so I honestly can't tell you," he said. "I don't know about romance. Frank is still wearing his wedding ring. He's to the stage where he can enjoy flirting, but he's a complex guy."
Blue Bloods airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
