Donald Trump Calls Saturday Night Live a 'Total Republican Hit Job' After National Emergency Sketch

Saturday Night Livehas once again gotten under the president's skin.

This week, the show's cold open featured the return of -- who else!? -- Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump as he made his national emergency declaration in the Rose Garden before taking off for his Florida golf resort. After touting the results of his physical examination and his upcoming second summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, whom Baldwin's Trump described as "a very cool and misunderstood guy," NotTrump got down to the business of implementing his executive authority.

"I'm gonna cut to the chase, folks. We need wall. OK? There are a tremendous amount of drugs flowing into this country, from the southern border, or the brown line, as many people have asked me not to call it," he said in the sketch. "That's why we need wall. Because wall works. Wall makes safe."

Upon fielding some questions from reporters, Baldwin's Trump added, "You all see why I have to fake this national emergency, right? I have to because I want to." After summoning up some statistics on the fly about the consequences of "chain migration," he finished with, "In conclusion, this is a total emergency, a five-alarm blaze, which means I gotta go to Mar-a-Lago so I can play some golf."

Evidently, the real Donald Trump did not care much for the portrayal. On Twitter, the president unleashed on SNL, calling it "tired" and a "total Republican hit job."

Of course, it might not have just been the cold open that got under Trump's skin.

This week's "Weekend Update" segment also roasted the Rose Garden speech. While Colin Jost took aim at Trump's "sing-song"-style justification for implementing the national emergency, Michael Che just said he suffered from Trump fatigue.

"I am so tired of telling Trump jokes. We've been making fun of this dude and his dumbass wall for so long, I got to be honest, now I kind of want to see the wall," Che said. "I'm not saying we should let him build the wall, but what if we like let him do a PowerPoint presentation? A dramatic re-enactment. I just want to see exactly what Trump thinks will happen when the Mexican drug cartel sees a wall."

The segment also brought in Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat to reprise their roles as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, as the two giddily reviewed the legislation they were able to negotiate to avoid another government shutdown. In addition to being coy about the limited funding the package includes for Trump's proposed wall, they also had a rip-roaring good time reviewing the colorful critique of POTUS' achievements by his former political ally Ann Coulter.
