NBC has acquired some extra booty to add to its 2012-2013 TV schedule. The network has ordered pirate drama Crossbones, from Luther creator Neil Cross.

In 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, home to the first functioning democracy in the Americas, the notorious pirate Blackbeard leads a nation of thieves and outlaws who represent a mounting threat to intentional commerce. To regain control, a trained undercover assassin named Tom Lowe is sent to take down Blackbeard. However, Lowe soon becomes an admirer of Blackbeard, thanks to his charisma, intelligence and political ideals.

Fall TV scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Gladiator, Men In Black) will executive-produce along with Three Rivers' Ted Gold and Cross, who will also write the series.

NBC has ordered ten episodes of Crossbones, which will begin production in the fall.
