Joshua Jackson Is Reportedly Also Leaving The Affair and We're Upset About It

As if this show wasn't sad enough

The Affair almost makes a game out of playing with viewers' emotions. No one weak of heart can make it through an episode of that show, and fans that have held on for four seasons were brutally tested with Alison's (Ruth Wilson) mysterious death earlier this summer. Now it seems that fans will have to say goodbye to another core cast member before the final season.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Joshua Jackson is also unlikely to return for the drama's final episodes, just weeks after Wilson's controversial departure from the series. Jackson plays Wilson's ex-husband and father of her children, Cole Lockhart. The Affair is a a steamy show, but Jackson was definitely the sexiest part and Cole's journey to heal after the death of his son became one of the most intriguing storylines of the entire show. Cole's path on the show was always tightly intertwined with Alison's though, and with Wilson off the show it leaves Cole's fate up in the air.

Showtime declined to comment on Jackson's exit.

The Affair creative team is still breaking the final season and the conclusion of Cole's storyline has not been set. Jackson could potentially return for one or multiple episodes to see the end of Cole's run, but no final decisions have been made. The final season will also conclude the storylines for the other major characters, Noah (Dominic West) and Helen (Maura Tierney).

The Affair returns in 2019 on Showtime for the fifth and final season.
