Starz knows Mondays suck, which is why the network has given us a gift to cheer us up: a premiere date and trailer for the second season of the sci-fi espionage thriller Counterpart. So get out your favorite kitten calendar and write this information down: The J.K. Simmons-led series will return for 10 new episodes Sunday, Dec. 9 at 9/8c.

The critically beloved series follows Simmons' Howard Silk, a low-level employee of a bureaucratic UN agency who's thrust into dangerous new life when his higher-ranking double from a parallel world, known as the Prime World, crosses through a portal below Berlin and reveals that an inter-dimensional diplomatic crisis is threatening to disrupt life as we know it.

In Season 2, now that the Crossing is closed and each Howard is stranded in the other's world, both men will have to adapt in order to survive. Howard Prime takes on his other's life, which means going to his job every day and living in his home with his wife, and Howard Alpha finds himself still locked in a mysterious black site known as Echo, cut off from everyone he knows. Meanwhile, a cold war is beginning to escalate between the two worlds.

In addition to Simmons, the series stars Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Nicholas Pinnock, Nazanin Boniadi, and Sara Serraiocco. Joining the series in Season 2 are James Cromwell (American Horror Story) as Yanek and Betty Gabriel (Westworld) as Naya Temple.

Counterpart returns for Season 2 on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 9/8c on Starz.
